KL to Rendang and back...

Well just as we anticipated, going to the airport and getting on plane was exciting stuff, the movies were endless, as were drinks and the food wasn't to shabby either.

We landed in KL at around 9, and Jons Dad (Pete) picked us up from the airport and drove us to his home where we celebrated with Tiger beer mmmmmmm..

The next day Jon n I checked out the local neighbourhood and discovered possibly the coolest concept store ever....Who has ever wanted a foot massage/scrub, but gets freaked out by people touching their feet???? Well down at the ol Bangsar shops they've come up with an alternative... get little fishies to do it instead. These lil dudes are called Garra Rufa fish, and they clean and nibble all the dead skin off your feet leaving your tootsies gleamingly translucent, if thats a look you want. The feel like mini vacuum cleaners. You have half an hour to sit besides a pool with your feet dangling in the pool while millions of these guys get to work, and your feet really do feel smooth afterwards.

On Monday we started our big roadtrip up the east coast of Malaysia to Rendang Island. We stayed overnight in Cherating which is a cruisy lil beach village where every kid and his cat
(there are bajillions of cats everywhere) have a scooter or a lil car like this.

The next day we kept on driving up the coast to Terengganu, which is a state capital citywhere Pete had organised for us to go sailing on a 36ft yacht at Heritage Bay and then a tour down the river on a traditional Malay boat.
On the tour we got to stop at a half finished theme park, which we were preetttty excited about. Islam Hadhari. An Islamic theme park! 21 mini mosques from around the world plus rides! No one really cared we were there, the construction guys just looked at us. It was eerily empty and there was thunder rolling all around so it was very atmospheric, maybe Allah was unhappy we were there before it was finished?

Look Ma, now we dont have to go to to India anymore!

There were mosques from Indonesia, China, Iran, Afghanistan plus kids rides, apparently its already been officially opened - but its not even finished... go figure. They also had a real mosque.. the Crystal Mosque, which is kinda like an Islamic Disney castle.. It even has a light show at night.

That night we stayed in a traditional kampong (village) at Auwi's yellow house, it was set over the river and was pretty much as basic accommodation as you can get, but that doesnt mean it was bad, just that our Mums would probably freak out. We all liked it. A matress with a mosquito net, a light, and hole in floor that went straight into the river.
And then finally the next day we got to the jetty that would take us to Rendang Island. Pretty much paradise, we spent the next 4 days snorkelling pretty much the whole time. There is a marine park in Redang so all the fish are protected and very cheeky.. coming right up to you.
Jon has an underwater camera so he took hundreds of pictures. As soon as you put your head under the water, whether you were 1 m or 50ms from shore there were always fish. The only problem was that every resort brought their guests to the marine park, so it was hard to see anything by your self as there was always 50 other people. Although Jon, Pete and I were the only ones not wearing life jackets so we could get under where as eveyone one else was bobbing on the top. It was pretty hard to leave,
we saw turtles, sharks, eels, jellyfish, fluro fish, nemo fish, big fish, stripey fish, lots of fish.
We drove back to KL in one day and stopped at Batu caves on the way.
Last time Jon and I were here we climbed all 272 steps to the caves and looked at all the hindu shrines but this time we just wanted to check out the finished 50ft statue of Hanuman that was being built when we came last time.
And thats pretty much it for now folks. We have to say a huuuuuuuuuggggggeeee terimah kasih to Pete for organising our trip though, it was pretty amazingly good, we got off the beaten track and saw alot of traditional Malay life and fish that we couldnt have seen by ourselves, so thank you so much for taking time out and coming with us and organising the boats and Rendang annnd pancakes aaaaaannnnd cheesy fries at KFC when they were only serving breakfast (KFC has breakfast here!). We will always remember it.

Highlights: Fish therapy, endless fresh lime juices and Tiger beer, yummy food stalls every 50 ms on the highway, going on the yacht, mini mosque world, all of Redang and it clear blue water and coconut trees and cheeky fish, snorkelling on tap, Auwis house.
Lowlights: Leaving Redang
Soundtrack: Pussycat dolls (I think this is all the DJs on Redang owned)
Beyonce - to the left to the left
Hope all you guys are well. xoxoxoxox

Hello World

Hello world, goodbye Melbourne!
Melbourne is possibly the best city in the world...possibly. We shall have to see....
Things to look forward to:
  1. Going to the airport.
  2. Watching movies on the plane.
  3. Landing in a different country!
  4. Swimming in beautiful crystal clear warm water (sigh) and seeing all the fish.
  5. Being able to pick up and leave and go where ever we want, cos everything we need is in our trusty backback.
  6. Pretty much every country.
  7. THE FOOD.

Maybe we should make this list when we get back, it's really hard to be specific before you go, but really, we're just going so we can watch free movies on the plane. Really. That's all we are excited about.

THINGS NOT TO GET EXCITED ABOUT

  1. Only having 2 pairs of pants for 6 months
  2. Being paranoid every mosquito bite will KILL YOU.
  3. Having to deal with all the hustlers tryin to hustle you out of you chocolate/camp savings.
  4. Being sick. Alot.
  5. Having to watch boring movies on the plane.
  6. Being homesick for family and friends
  7. Hating backback

Well it's all going to happen in like... let me see 47 hours. And then we are going in the immortal words of Daft Punk 'around the world, a- round thee world...'
